Yarkand is approximately halfway between Khotan and Kashgar and is also associated with pomegranates as well as other traditional Xinjiang work. Popular thought is that Yarkland rugs are woven in a slightly different way to the other two rugs in this group but this hypothesis is not shared by al. Any rug not so identified by these three centres is merely known as an Xinjiang rug which may be a ploy to increase its price!
